From the colonial capital of Colombo with its modern high rise buildings, searching for wildlife in National park, visiting historic sites and drinking tea in the hills before ending on the shore of the Indian Ocean.

Description

Day 1
Arrive at Colombo airport and transfer by private car to Negombo, just 6 miles north of Colombo, a coastal fishing village on the western coast, renowned for its seafood and beaches. Overnight in Negombo.

Day 2
Early morning visit to the fish market, colourful harbour and to see the Dutch Canals in Negombo.  Return to your hotel for breakfast.  Drive to Dambulla and check in to hotel for a 2 night stay before having an evening game drive in the Minneriya National Park in a jeep. Return to hotel.

Day 3
After breakfast drive to Sigiriya and climb the Rock Fortress, a world heritage site, before visiting Polonnaruwa, which was the 2nd capital city of Sri Lanka and see the ruins of the Royal Palace and former Temple of the Tooth Relic. Return to hotel in Dambulla.

Day 4
Visit the world heritage Dambulla Rock Cave before driving to Kandy. En route visit a spice garden in Matale and see the different spices for which Sri Lanka is famous. Drive around Kandy for a city tour and visit some of the bazaars, arts and crafts centre and Batik factory. Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic before going to the theatre for a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing. Overnight in Kandy.

Day 5
After breakfast visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens before driving to Nuwara Eliya (“Little England”). En route visit a tea factory and taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory. In the evening have a sightseeing tour of Numara Eliya (1890m), a popular hill station of the British during their rule. This area is the centre of the tea growing regions of the island. Overnight stay.

Day 6
Drive to Beruwala and check in to hotel for 2 nights. The rest of the day is free to relax.

Day 7
Free day to enjoy the beach. OPTIONAL activities can be arranged such as a city tour of Colombo, Galle and Dutch Forts, fish and vegetable markets, Kachimalai Mosque and the large Buddhist statue.

Day 8
Tour ends – transfer to airport – return home or onward travel.
