The ‘children’s southern explorer’ is a memorable experience of Sri Lanka’s spectacular southern beaches; fascinating elephants and marine turtles; and the ancient cultural heritage. This tour is recommended for families with young children who will enjoy fun-filled activities within a safe and friendly environment. We have designed an easy-paced holiday that allows families to experience real Sri Lanka

Description

Day 1 & 2
You will be met at the airport and transfer to a beach hotel with an extensive beach frontage in Negombo situated just 20 minutes from the airport. Spend your days relaxing on the sun-kissed beaches. Take a ride on a catamaran with a local fisherman. These large traditional fishing boats with their bellowing sails are only found in this region of the island.

Day 3 – 5
After an early breakfast, travel to Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle and check into the hotel for your three nights stay. Children will welcome the wide range of buffet food available and will enjoy playing in the swimming pool or running around extensive gardens frequented by monkeys, mongoose, and rock squirrels. Enjoy jeep safaris in Hurulu Eco Park / Forest Reserve and Minneriya National Park best known for the Asian Elephants. During the dry season, herds of up to 150 Asian elephants, mammals and plenty of bird life can be seen.

Day 6 & 7
Travel onto Kandy which is steeped in history and culture. Visit the ancient Temple of the Tooth where a tooth relic of Lord Buddha is enshrined, the Royal Botanical gardens and a Kandyan Dance show.

Day 8
Today you journey to the western foothills of the central highlands for your overnight stay in Kitulgala. This is an area with tropical rain-forests, winding rivers and an undulating terrain. Kitulgala owes its popularity to the Kelani River which offers exciting Grade 3 rapids for rafting. Rise to the sound of bird call and the gushing waters of the mighty Kelani; go white water rafting or canoeing. Stay overnight at a Riverside Camp in Kitulgala.

Day 9 – 13
Travel southwest to the coastal town of Bentota and check into a hotel for a five-night stay where you will relax and enjoy the sandy beaches and the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Children will be kept entertained with the numerous water-sports on offer on the calm Bentota lagoon, alongside the sea including banana-boating, water-skiing, jet-skiing, windsurfing and wave boarding. They will also love seeing the baby turtles at the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project which is a pioneering effort in conserving the endangered Marine Turtle species that come to nest in along the west coast of the island. We also visit Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort which is about an hour south of Bentota. Galle Fort’s well-preserved ramparts overlooking the cricket stadium, lighthouse staring into the Indian Ocean, narrow streets lined with colonial period buildings still in use, museums, shops and cafes, make for an interesting excursion.

Day 14
Tour ends – Transfer to Airport – Return Home or onward travel.
